Ekstasis
Long nights and many hours of labor by a few dedicated individuals, that you may or may not have heard of, end in a unique collection of artifacts displayed on blank walls for your viewing pleasure. Most are quite small, but one is very large and peculiar looking. As you enter this space on the first floor of an academic building you are immediately overcome by this giant toy-like structure.
This object takes up nearly half of the room with its long leather belt sprawled out on the floor and its giant wooden and metal frame. This machine looks like it may even work, for it has a greased chain and gear system running from a pair of very industrial metal wheels to huge crank that if you turned would cause the machine to start moving.
A quiet buzzing noise is echoing throughout the room as you walk around and admire the works on the wall. In the middle of the room is an island which on one side has a collection of empty books carefully crafted out of wood by very precise hands. On the other side of this island are ceramic figures shaped like pottery projects gone terribly wrong. Just beyond this island on the back wall is a quilt made of carefully chosen colors.
Across the room from you is a young woman sitting at a desk in the corner which may cause you to assume that she can answer any of your questions if you have any. Again walking around the island past the girl at the desk, the wooden books reappear and your eyes find a collection of paper structures with angles and shapes combined with careful folds to create stair like images. As you leave this silent space the girl at the desk says “Have a nice day.”
